Media & Speaking
I work to bring careful scholarship on religion, healing, and law into public conversation — on screen, in print, in court, and at the podium.
Miracle: the series
I serve as co-executive producer of Miracle, an eight-episode documentary series from Angel Studios exploring claims of miraculous healing through intimate human storytelling and scientific inquiry. I appear on screen investigating cases, and the series partners with the Global Medical Research Institute to examine medical evidence. Watch on Angel · Theological advisory board.
Science of healing prayer
With colleagues at the Global Medical Research Institute (GMRI) — a nonprofit applying rigorous methods of evidence-based medicine to Christian spiritual healing practices — I have co-authored peer-reviewed studies, including the Study of the Therapeutic Effects of Proximal Intercessory Prayer (Southern Medical Journal) and a randomized controlled trial of prayer for pain and anxiety in primary care (Annals of Family Medicine, 2026). GMRI’s board chair — my husband, the neuroscientist Joshua W. Brown — tells the story behind this research in his new book, Proving a Miracle.
Column
My Psychology Today column, Testing Prayer, offers reflections on religion and alternative medicine — from “Why ‘Christian’ Yoga?” to mindfulness meditation in public schools.

Expert witness & consultation
I have served as an expert witness in legal challenges concerning yoga, meditation, and religion in public education — including Sedlock v. Baird (Superior Court, San Diego) — testifying, in different cases, for parents and for school districts. Law firms and educational organizations regularly consult me on religion, mind-body practices, and the First Amendment.
